Simple , elegant circular gravel space bordered by drought tolerant hummingbird attractor plants. Two raised rectangular planting beds were added for growing vegetables.
This garden in the Richmond district of San Francisco is about 8 months old in the photo. The drought tolerant plants were chosen together with owner for interesting foliage color and texture contrasts. Background plants will eventually cover the fence. The naturalistic patio is constructed with Blue Stone.
Addition of planting beds and pathway along main entry. Goal was to harmonize colors and style with newly remodeled home while providing easy access from driveway to front door.
This drought tolerant garden lives in San Francisco’s Sunset district. The plants were chosen for aesthetics and survivability in sandy soil close to the ocean.
Our aim was to create a beautiful, drought-tolerant garden with carefully chosen trees and tall shrubs for privacy and fence coverage. Native manzanitas with their beautiful bark and stems provide refuge for passing birds, and assorted plants throughout are attractive to nectar seeking hummingbirds A bluestone patio provides the main seating area, and a pet-friendly gravel area covers the rest of the open space.
Front redo (just planted) . A low-water, native “mow-free” lawn provides a place for children to play while opening up the space and providing visual interest.
Juxtaposing a linear landscape design with a CA native plantscape created a balanced , attractive, useful space that also provides bird habitat, and is drought tolerant. Several weeks after planting , a Junco had already created a ground nest among the Dune Tansies.
Addition of planters along ledge of old retaining wall to create a pleasant view from back windows. Plantings include hummingbird attractors.
Small hardscape for particular needs, prior to planting. Raised vegetable beds provide rich soil for healthy vegetables, and also provide casual seating. Raised beds were also oriented for maximum sun.
